1. How do I retrieve all my contacts when switching phones?

To retrieve all your contacts when switching phones, the simplest and most reliable method is to use synchronization with a Google account. Here’s how:

On your old phone:

  • Go to Settings > Accounts (or Accounts and sync).
  • Select your Google account and make sure contact sync is enabled. If not, turn it on.
  • Wait for the sync to complete (check by opening the Contacts app, tapping the three dots in the top right corner, then Manage contacts > Import/Export > Sync).

On your new phone:

  • Sign in with the same Google account.
  • Go to Settings > Accounts and enable contact sync.
  • Your contacts will automatically appear in the Contacts app after a few minutes.

2. How do I transfer contacts from one Android to another?

Here is the method recommended by Google:

  • On the source phone, make sure your contacts are synced with your Google account.
  • On the new phone, sign in to the same Google account and enable contact sync. Your contacts will be transferred automatically.

3. How do I know if my contacts are stored on my phone or on my SIM card?

To check where your contacts are stored (on the phone, the SIM card, or a Google account), follow these steps:

  • Open the Contacts app on your Android phone.
  • Tap the three dots (menu) in the top right corner, then select Manage contacts or Settings.
  • Look for an option such as “View contacts from” or “Contact storage”. You will see a list of possible sources: Phone, SIM card, or Google account (or another synced account).
  • If you select “SIM card”, only the contacts saved on the SIM card will be displayed. Do the same for “Phone” or “Google” to see where your other contacts are stored.
