image de données flottante avec le titre quelles est la signification de RCS ?

In the telecom industry, the acronym RCS doesn’t stand for “Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés” (French Business Registry), but rather “Rich Communication Service”. Google created this communication standard to add richer features to SMS. And this new service developed by Google has been available since July 2019!

In this article, we introduce you to RCS and its main features.

RCS? But What Is It?

RCS is the acronym for “Rich Communication Service”. In simple terms, it can be described as an enhanced communication service.

RCS was developed from SMS and defined by the GSM Association (the organization bringing together all telecom operators) as a global telecom communication standard.

This communication standard is more commonly known as Joyn in France, which is its commercial name. Its goal is to offer enriched features, unlike SMS which was quite limited in the possibilities it provided.

Here are a few examples of features:

  • Business authentication: you can showcase your company and strengthen your credibility with this feature. It allows you to add your logo, website, or email address directly in your message.
  • Carousel sending: to highlight your products or services, you have the option to create carousels. This makes information about your products more accessible and enhances the customer experience.
  • Scenario creation: with RCS, you can now prepare scenarios and integrate predefined reply buttons and call-to-action buttons.

Before you can send enriched messages, you must request activation of the feature in your SMS Partner account.

Many other features are waiting to be discovered, and an RCS API is also available. For more details, visit our page on RCS campaigns.
